Three pallet trucks and a sheet of paper

The Edition Block 1966–2022

A co-operation project on the Lower Rhine

Museum Schloss Moyland, 23 March – 18 August 2024
Museum Goch, 14 April – 9 June 2024
Museum Kurhaus Kleve, 26 April – 8 September 2024

The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of art from the 1960s to the present day and brings together numerous prominent artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is also a tribute to the international gallery owner, publisher and curator René Block from the Lower Rhine region. In his galleries in Berlin and New York, as museum director and curator of numerous biennials, he has organised world-class exhibitions and thus written art history. In doing so, he has often paid particular attention to little-explored cultural landscapes, for example in the Nordic countries, the Balkans or Turkey.

With his edition, René Block created an instrument for the "democratisation and socialisation of the art market" in Berlin in 1966. The 122 editions include Der Denker (1976/78) by Korean media artist Nam June Paik, multiples by Joseph Beuys such as Schlitten (1969) and Filzanzug (1970), the expansive object Hubwagen (2012/13) by Alicja Kwade as well as prints and objects by artists such as Gerhard Richter, Robert Filliou, Sigmar Polke, Marina Abramovic, Nevin Aladag, Mehtap Baydu, Rosa Barba, Wolf Vostell, Allan Kaprow and many more.

The exhibition is spread across the three art museums Moyland, Goch and Kurhaus Kleve. The respective durations are staggered. This is the first Lower Rhine-wide co-operation between these three museums. A combined ticket will be introduced at the start of the exhibition.

Press preview on Thursday, 21 March 2024, 11:00 am at Museum Schloss Moyland
